Projekt Culture Moves Europe - Goethe Institute

The Culture Moves Europe project is currently underway in our workshop. With a rich 16-year history of traditional blacksmithing, we invited one creative professional to embark on a transformative journey of skill acquisition and cultural exchange. This residency offers a chance for artists to immerse themselves in the ancient craft of blacksmithing and learn traditional techniques from an experienced craftsman.

The chosen craftsman will be involved in joint projects, together we will link his/her own skills with our extensive blacksmithing expertise. The exchange of knowledge and techniques is the core of this stay. This residency is aimed at creative professionals looking for hands-on experience in the field
smithy, which offers a rare opportunity to live and work in a rustic yet rewarding environment.

The aim of the project is to preserve culture - contributing to the preservation of traditional crafts and techniques, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of blacksmithing and related skills continues to flourish. Another goal is educational impact - contributing to the availability of blacksmith education by providing a model for effective skills development, potentially influencing formal and informal education programs.

Amazing collaboration with our hosting artisan Jitka Niklová

The project’s mission to preserve cultural heritage, promote sustainability, and foster artistic exchange has been fulfilled through the hands-on learning and skill development within our workshop. By sharing knowledge between artisans and creative professionals, we've contributed to the evolution of blacksmithing as an art form, merging tradition with modern creativity.

We were honored to welcome Jitka Niklová as our guest artist. With years of experience in ceramics, Jitka came to us with a vision to combine the spirit of ceramics with the strength and beauty of blacksmithing. Through this residency, Jitka has not only learned the intricacies of blacksmithing but has also brought her own artistic vision to life, blending the elements of metal and clay into unique works of art.

As our project concludes, we’re proud of what we've accomplished together. We’ve learned, shared, and created a lasting impact on the local and European artistic community. And because of the success and joy of this experience, we’re excited to apply for the next round of the Culture Moves Europe program. Stay tuned for future projects and collaborations!
